Cambodia's 1992 series was issued as the country emerged from UN transitional administration under UNTAC — a period when the National Bank of Cambodia was being rebuilt almost from scratch after the Khmer Rouge had systematically dismantled the entire banking and monetary system in 1975, going so far as to demolish the national bank building itself. The choice of the Canadian Bank Note Company reflected a broader pattern of Western institutional support during the reconstruction period.

The watermark is the sole security feature — a thin specification for a high denomination, though counterfeit pressure on Cambodian currency at this level was limited by the dollarized reality of the economy at the time.
