Reverse description A highly detailed rendition of the Gothic Crown quartered royal arms, engraved after William Wyon's celebrated design from the 1847 Gothic Crown. The shield is divided into four quarters: the first and fourth bearing the three passant guardant lions of England, the second displaying the rampant lion of Scotland within a double tressure flory-counter-flory, the third showing the harp of Ireland, and an inescutcheon at the centre bearing the Star of the Order of the Garter. The shield is surrounded by the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE rendered in Gothic blackletter script, and the whole is framed by an ornate decorative border with Tudor roses and floral embellishments at the quarters. The outer legend in Gothic script reads TUEATUR UNITA DEUS and ANNO DOM MMXXI.
