This piece belongs to the Royal Mint's modern revival of the Gothic Crown series, which draws its design lineage from William Wyon's 1847 crown — itself one of the most admired coin designs produced during Victoria's reign and a landmark of Victorian medallic art. The 1847 original was struck in proof only, never for general circulation, making it a collector's piece from the moment it left the dies.
