The 1943 1000 Pengő was printed in enormous quantities, but Hungary's wartime inflation made the denomination functionally obsolete almost before the notes wore out. By 1945–1946, the pengő collapsed in the most severe hyperinflation ever recorded — prices doubling roughly every fifteen hours at the peak — and the entire series, including this issue, was rendered worthless ahead of the 1946 forint reform.
The Veszprém designation identifies the regional payment office, not the printer. Notes from this series frequently surface in uncirculated condition; the inflationary spiral consumed purchasing power far faster than it consumed paper.
