| Obverse description | Central depiction of the façade of the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral, Macao's most iconic landmark, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend MACAU arcs across the upper portion of the coin, while the date 1997 appears in the lower field.
