| Obverse description | Central field features a large stylized Chinese character rendered in a dynamic, calligraphic design, incorporating the form of a bird in flight to evoke the theme of aviation. The character is enclosed within a circular border formed by two concentric rings. The outer legend in Latin script reads INAUGURAÇÃO DO AEROPORTO INTERNACIONAL DE MACAU, while a corresponding Chinese inscription in characters runs along the lower inner border. The date 1995 appears in the lower central field beneath the main device. |

Issued to mark the final years of operation at Macau's Kai Tak-era successor, Macau International Airport, which opened in December 1995 on reclaimed land off Taipa Island — one of the most technically demanding civil engineering projects in the territory's history. Portugal was less than two years from handing Macau back to China when this coin was struck, and commemorative gold issues from this period reflect a deliberate push by the administration to document infrastructure achievements before the 1999 handover deadline closed that chapter.
