Reverse description Central design features a rectangular depiction of the cover of the Ruhnama, the spiritual and philosophical book authored by President Saparmurat Türkmenbaşy, showing a scene of the president gesturing before a gathering of citizens set against a mountainous landscape. The title Mähribanlarym (meaning 'My dear ones') is inscribed in stylized Turkmen script across the lower portion of the central vignette. Radiating sunburst lines emanate from behind the central rectangular panel, filling the field in a decorative starburst pattern. The denomination 1000 manat is inscribed in the lower margin below the central panel. The name SAPARMYRAT TÜRKMENBAŞY appears at the top of the central vignette.

Additional information

The Ruhnama — literally "Book of the Soul" — was a two-volume spiritual and nationalist text authored by Saparmurat Niyazov, Turkmenistan's autocratic president-for-life, who required it to be memorized for citizenship tests, driving exams, and university entrance. Schools replaced hours of conventional instruction with Ruhnama study. This coin was issued the year before Niyazov's sudden death in December 2006, part of a broader state program that treated the book as quasi-scripture. His successor, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, quietly removed Ruhnama requirements from public life within two years of taking power.
