| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Turkmenistan occupies the central field, featuring an octagonal geometric frame enclosing a wreath of cotton bolls and wheat ears surrounding a central medallion with the Akhal-Teke horse, surmounted by a crescent moon and five stars. Ornamental carpet gül motifs decorate the corners and border of the design. Two olive or wheat sprays flank the lower portion of the arms. The legend TÜRKMENISTANYÑ MERKEZI BANKY curves along the upper rim, with the date 2006 inscribed in the exergue below. |

The markhor (Capra falconeri) was listed as endangered by the IUCN at the time of this coin's issue, with the Central Asian population — including those native to the Kopet Dag range along Turkmenistan's southern border with Iran — under particular pressure from habitat loss and unregulated hunting. Turkmenistan's commemorative gold program of this period was modest in output and internationally obscure, producing low-mintage issues that rarely reached secondary markets outside the region.
