| Obverse description | The Zambian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting two supporters — a man and a woman — flanking a shield adorned with wavy vertical lines, surmounted by an eagle with spread wings. The date is split either side of the arms, '19' to the left and '98' to the right. The legend 'BANK OF ZAMBIA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto 'ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION' appears on the scroll at the base of the arms. The denomination '1000 KWACHA' is inscribed in large letters along the lower rim. |

| Reverse description | A portrait bust of Diana, Princess of Wales, is depicted facing slightly to the left, wearing a tiara and a beaded or jewelled neckline. The effigy is rendered in moderate relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features. The commemorative legend 'IN MEMORY OF PRINCESS DIANA' curves along the upper periphery, with the date of her passing, '31 AUGUST 1998', inscribed to the right of the portrait in the field. |
