Obverse description At center, the coat of arms of Iceland depicted in high relief, featuring a quartered shield bearing the traditional cross design, supported by four guardians of Iceland (landvættir): a bull (ox) to the lower left, a giant (maður) to the lower right, a vulture (gammur) to the upper right, and a dragon (dreki) to the upper left, all standing on a rocky plinth. The arms are rendered in fine detail against a smooth field. The circular legend along the upper rim reads '· 1000 EITT ÞÚSUND KRÓNUR ·', with the dates '1944' at the left and '1994' at the right, and '· ÍSLAND ·' along the lower rim. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the coin.
