The legal tender status is nominal; no 1000-franc coin circulates in the Cameroonian economy, where the highest circulating denomination is a fraction of that face value.
The selective gilding was applied post-striking, a finishing technique now routine at the Monnaie de Paris and several contracted European mints handling African sovereign issues.
