The Eurafrique program was a short-lived Franco-African cooperative initiative promoted in the early 1970s as a framework for post-colonial economic integration between Europe and Africa — more political theater than policy. Senegal, under Léopold Sédar Senghor, participated enthusiastically; his concept of Négritude gave him ideological reasons to frame African-European partnership as culturally legitimate rather than neocolonial dependency.
The 1975 gold issue was part of a broader commemorative series produced for collector markets rather than circulation, with most examples going directly to European buyers.
