| Obverse description | The obverse bears the national coat of arms of Senegal at center, depicting a quartered shield with a rampant lion to the left and a baobab tree to the right, surmounted by a five-pointed star. The shield is flanked by two laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon bearing the national motto in three parts: UN PEUPLE, UN BUT, UNE FOI. The Eurafrique program was a short-lived Franco-African cooperative initiative promoted in the early 1970s as a framework for post-colonial economic integration between Europe and Africa — more political theater than policy. Senegal, under Léopold Sédar Senghor, participated enthusiastically; his concept of Négritude gave him ideological reasons to frame African-European partnership as culturally legitimate rather than neocolonial dependency.
The 1975 gold issue was part of a broader commemorative series produced for collector markets rather than circulation, with most examples going directly to European buyers.
