| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Cameroon occupies the central field, depicting a shield bearing scales of justice surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked by two crossed fasces each topped with an axe head. The motto is inscribed in bilingual form across the upper field: PAIX / PEACE to the left and PATRIE / FATHERLAND to the right, with TRAVAIL / WORK at the apex. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA is boldly rendered in the lower field. A banner at the base of the arms bears the bilingual inscription REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON / REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN. |

Cameroon's foray into the commemorative bullion market accelerated sharply after 2000, with the republic licensing its minting authority to European producers — primarily Bavarian operations — to produce themed collector coins bearing Cameroonian face values that would never circulate within the country. This piece is a product of that arrangement, issued nominally under Cameroonian authority but designed and struck entirely for the European collector market.
Cross-country skiing has no domestic relevance to Cameroon whatsoever, which is precisely the point — the subject was chosen for export appeal, not national significance.
