These coins are produced explicitly for the collector export market, with no realistic prospect of circulation, and are contracted through private minting intermediaries rather than struck on sovereign initiative.
The CFA franc itself has been pegged to the euro since 1999, before that to the French franc at a fixed rate set in 1948.
