Gabon issues coinage through the Central African States monetary union, whose shared franc CFA has been pegged to the euro — and before that, the French franc — since 1945. Individual member states periodically commission collector pieces under their own names despite having no independent monetary policy. This piece is one of those: a national vanity issue produced for the collector market, almost certainly struck by a European private mint on contract.
