| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Gabon is rendered in high relief at the centre of the field, featuring an escutcheon divided into two quarters: the upper section displays three circular shapes in gold on a black ground, while the lower section depicts a sailing ship on a blue field. Two black panthers act as supporters flanking the shield on either side, and a Okume tree rises above the escutcheon as the crest. A scroll below bears the national motto 'UNION JUSTICE TRAVAIL'. The circular legend 'RÉPUBLIQUE GABONAISE' arcs along the upper periphery in large Latin capitals, while the denomination '1000 FRANCS CFA' is inscribed along the lower border. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a full-colour reproduction of Vincent van Gogh's 1881 drawing 'A Boy Cutting Grass with a Sickle', depicting a young labourer bent forward in a field, rendered in the artist's characteristic early naturalistic style with earthy greens and browns. Superimposed in the left portion of the field is a raised, uncoloured relief portrait bust of Van Gogh himself, facing slightly left and wearing a hat, executed in a sculptural finish that contrasts with the coloured background. The inscription 'Vincent Van Gogh' appears in a flowing script along the right side of the field, with the dates '1853-1890' inscribed in the upper right. The issue year '2017' appears in raised numerals at the lower left of the field. |
