Benin's CFA franc coinage from the early 1990s was produced almost entirely for the collector market — the country had no meaningful domestic coin circulation infrastructure of its own, operating instead through the West African Economic and Monetary Union's common fiduciary currency. The 1992 silver issues were struck under contract by European mints for export sale, bearing a denomination that had no practical purchasing relationship to the coins themselves.
