1000 Dram CST and CSTO

Armenia joined the Collective Security Treaty Organization at its founding in 1992, but the CST itself — the predecessor agreement — dated to May 1992 and was signed in Tashkent by six post-Soviet republics scrambling to establish a mutual defense framework as the USSR dissolved around them. The CSTO as a formal international organization only achieved that status in 2003. This coin marks the 25th anniversary of the original Tashkent treaty.

Armenian commemorative silver of this period was struck at foreign facilities, with production contracted out rather than handled domestically.
