Obverse description Cast iron coin of large module featuring a central square perforation (方孔, fāng kǒng) surrounded by a raised square rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (楷書, kǎishū) are disposed in the four cardinal positions around the central hole, reading clockwise from the top: 永 (Yǒng), 千 (Qiān), 安 (Ān), 一 (Yī), together forming the legend 永安一千 ('Perpetual Peace / 1000 Cash'). The characters are rendered in low relief against a flat field, with a raised inner rim framing the central perforation and a raised outer rim defining the coin's edge. The surface exhibits the coarse texture characteristic of iron-cast coinage of the Five Dynasties period.
