Poland's Millennium coinage program commemorated the 900th anniversary of Polish statehood — specifically the Christianization of Poland in 966 AD under Mieszko I. The 1960 trial strikes were produced in multiple metal variants and with competing eagle designs as authorities worked through acceptable types before settling on final circulation specifications.
