Bank Polski issued this series under conditions of mounting fiscal pressure — Poland had returned to the gold standard in 1927 under Grabski's reforms, but by the early 1930s the global depression had badly strained reserves, and new note issues were carefully managed instruments of that precarious stability. The 100 Złotych denomination carried most of the weight in everyday commercial transactions during this period.
Printed domestically by PWPW, which had been established in Warsaw in 1919 specifically to free the reborn Polish state from dependence on foreign printers. For a country only thirteen years removed from partition, that capacity mattered as much politically as technically.
