Issued by Liu Bei's Shu Han regime during its consolidation of Sichuan following the seizure of Yi Province from Liu Zhang in 214 AD, this denomination was an explicit inflationary measure — 100 cash nominally, struck at a weight far too light to justify that valuation. The Wu Zhu standard it nominally referenced had been the backbone of Han coinage for centuries, but Liu Bei's administration was invoking that lineage while debasing it entirely to fund military operations.
Shu Han never controlled a major copper source, which bears directly on the erratic casting quality seen across the type.
