Kazakhstan's 100 Tenge circulation bimetallic series, introduced in the 2010s, was part of a broader redenomination strategy following the tenge's prolonged depreciation against the dollar — the National Bank had been managing inflation fallout since the 2015 devaluation that nearly halved the currency's value overnight. The "Winged Bars" motif belongs to a multi-coin program drawing on Kazakh nomadic heritage, each design referencing pre-Soviet material culture.
KM#553 is a relatively recent addition to that series, struck for general circulation rather than collector issue.
