Thomas De La Rue held the contract for Syrian banknote production through much of the Ba'athist period, and this long-running series — active for over a decade — reflects the relative monetary stability Syria maintained before the economic disruptions of the late 1980s. The wide date range on P#104 is itself telling: a government comfortable enough with a single design to leave it in production across three different Finance Ministers and two distinct phases of Assad's consolidation of state institutions.

Notes from the early 1990 printings occasionally show slight color variance in the green register, a known characteristic of aging ink batches rather than a deliberate change.
