| Obverse description | Within a square frame occupying most of the field, the Austrian federal eagle — a stylised double-headed eagle rendered in a bold, modernist graphic style — is depicted centrally, with the shield of Austria on its breast and broken chains at its talons. The legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' appears in block capitals across the upper portion of the square frame, while the large denomination numeral '100' is prominently displayed in the lower section, followed by 'SCHILLING' in the exergual area of the frame. The engraver's signature 'GSÖLL' appears in small letters below the central design. The composition reflects the contemporary Austrian commemorative coinage aesthetic of the 1970s, with geometric, architecturally inspired lettering. |

| Reverse description | An aerial perspective view of Hohensalzburg Fortress — one of the largest and best-preserved medieval castles in Europe — rendered in fine relief, occupying the right and upper portions of the field. The fortress is depicted with considerable architectural detail, showing its towers, walls, courtyards, and rooflines in a bird's-eye composition. To the left, a five-line commemorative inscription in large bold Latin capitals reads '900 JAHRE FESTUNG HOHEN- SALZBURG', with the date '1977' positioned in the lower centre of the field. The engraver's signature 'PICHL' appears in small letters near the fortress design. |
