100 Scellini / 100 Somali Shillings

The Banca Nazionale Somala was established in 1960 following the unification of the former Trust Territory of Somalia and British Somaliland, and this 1962 series — printed by the Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato in Rome — was among the first substantive issues of the new sovereign state. Italy's state printing works had a natural institutional relationship with Somalia through the decade-long trusteeship administered under UN mandate from 1950, which partly explains the continuity in print supplier well after independence.

Pick 4 is notably scarcer than the lower denominations of the same series, consistent with high-value notes that saw limited retail handling and were more aggressively withdrawn when the series was retired.
