The ₹ symbol itself dates this series precisely: India's rupee sign was officially adopted on 15 July 2010, designed by D. Udaya Kumar and selected through a national competition. Its appearance on the 100-rupee note beginning in 2011 made this the first circulating series to carry it. The symbol's incorporation required modifications to the intaglio printing plates already in production at SPMCIL's Nashik and Dewas presses.
The proliferation of signature and plate letter combinations across this single Pick number reflects the RBI's practice of running multiple presses simultaneously, with plate letters serving as press-identification codes rather than date indicators. The unlisted Subbarao plate G and Patel plate L variants suggest production runs that were never formally catalogued — possibly short print orders or late-stage plate substitutions during the transition between governors in 2013.
