P#51 is a long-running denomination series that survived three different signature combinations over its lifespan — the pairing of R. Basant Roi with B.R. Gujadhur represents one of the earlier issues within the run. Basant Roi served two separate terms as Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, an unusual circumstance that itself created signature continuity questions for catalog purposes.
De La Rue's involvement with Mauritian currency dates back decades before this issue, and the security thread specification here remained relatively conservative compared to the windowed thread variants the printer was already applying to other clients' notes by the late 1990s.
