| Reversbeschreibung | A detailed high-relief depiction of the Grand Mosque and Islamic Centre in Malé occupies the central field, showing the domed main prayer hall, a tall minaret to the left, and the colonnaded facade of the complex with steps leading to the entrance. Below the mosque, the date of opening is inscribed in both Arabic-Indic numerals and Latin script: '١٤٠٥ ١٨-١١' above '11 NOVEMBER 1984'. The commemorative legend 'GRAND MOSQUE AND ISLAMIC CENTRE' curves along the lower left margin in Latin lettering, preceded by 'OFFICIAL OPENING OF'. Dhivehi text in Thaana script surrounds the upper and left portions of the field, recording the occasion in the national language. The entire design is rendered in proof finish with frosted high relief against deeply mirrored fields. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
The Islamic Centre in Malé — commonly called the Grand Mosque — was completed in 1984, funded substantially by contributions from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and other Islamic nations. Its inauguration represented a deliberate reorientation of Maldivian national identity toward the broader Muslim world during the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who had taken power in 1978 and governed for thirty years.
The Maldives Monetary Authority issued this commemorative in the same year the mosque opened, tying the coin's release directly to that inauguration. At 15.98g in 22-karat gold, mintages were extremely limited — this was never a circulating issue.
