Issued in December 2015 to mark the annexation of Crimea in March 2014, this commemorative note was the first Russian banknote to explicitly celebrate a territorial acquisition — an unusual move for a central bank in any era. The Bank of Russia produced it as a genuine circulating note, not a collector's issue, though demand from collectors immediately pulled most of it out of active use.
Its security specification is notably modest for a 100-rouble denomination in this period: no UV-reactive inks, no color-shifting element, no raised print.
