Obverse description Central field dominated by a large Ottoman tughra (imperial monogram) in bold relief, rendered in the characteristic cursive Arabic calligraphic style. A floral or foliate spray appears to the right of the tughra. Below the tughra, the denomination numeral '١٠٠' (100) is inscribed in Arabic-Indic numerals. The coin is surrounded by a dentilated or beaded border running along the rim. The overall execution is cruder than the Egyptian prototype it imitates, consistent with its unofficial Mahdist origin.
