100 Pula

Botswana's currency name — pula — means "rain" in Setswana, a word that doubles as a blessing in a landlocked, semi-arid country where rainfall is genuinely precious. The Bank of Botswana has leaned into that identity consistently, and the 100 Pula sits at the top of the series issued to mark a period of sustained economic stability driven largely by diamond revenues from the Orapa and Jwaneng mines — among the most productive in the world by the early 2000s.

Thomas De La Rue printed this series at their London facility. P#29 replaced the earlier 1994-issue 100 Pula, with the 2004-2005 dating reflecting a phased release rather than two distinct issues.
