| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central vignette presents an intaglio-style oval portrait of the Low German poet Johann Hinrich Fehrs, bust-length, set within a decorative frame of oak foliage. The name 'JOHANN HINRICH FEHRS' arcs across the top of the oval, with 'ITZEHOE' inscribed on the cartouche below. Flanking text panels carry biographical quotations in Low German dialect, and the bottom border records his birth on 10 April 1838 in Mühlenbarbek and death on 17 August 1916 in Itzehoe, with a facsimile signature 'J. Itzehoe's 1921 Notgeld series sits at the tail end of the first wave of German municipal emergency money — by mid-1921 the inflationary pressure that had justified small-denomination Notgeld was already giving way to the hyperinflationary catastrophe that would consume the following two years entirely. W. Gente of Hamburg was a regional printer handling multiple Schleswig-Holstein municipal issues simultaneously, which accounts for the relatively consistent production quality across notes from different towns in this period.
The designer credit to E. Meyer of Itzehoe is unusual enough to note — local artist attribution on Notgeld is less common than it might appear, and suggests the town commissioned original artwork rather than pulling from stock vignette catalogues.
