正面描述 The silver centre displays the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief, depicting an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and talons, rendered in a bold sculptural style. The aluminium bronze outer ring bears the circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcing along the upper periphery in raised Latin capitals. The lower portion of the ring is adorned with an oak-and-laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the base, flanking the lower field of the coin.

背面描述 The silver centre features the coat of arms of the State of Veracruz-Llave rendered in fine detail within the central disc: a heraldic shield surmounted by a cross inscribed VERA, displaying a fortified castle flanked by two columns, encircled by stars and flanked by a decorative laurel and floral wreath. The mint mark Mo and the date 2003 appear to the left and right of the central device respectively. The aluminium bronze outer ring carries the legend ESTADO DE VERACRUZ-LLAVE along the upper arc in raised Latin capitals, separated by raised dot ornaments, with the denomination $100 prominently displayed at the base of the ring.

附加信息

Part of the long-running "Estados y Monumentos" series that Banco de México launched in 2003, this issue celebrates Veracruz-Llave, the Gulf Coast state whose port city of Veracruz was the principal entry point for Spanish colonial trade and, later, the landing site of both Hernán Cortés in 1519 and the French intervention forces in 1838. The bimetallic format — the same architecture used for the commemorative 10-peso circulation coins — here reaches its most ambitious scale, with the .925 silver centre giving the piece genuine bullion character despite its nominal face value.

The full series ran through 32 state issues, each released in limited quantities. Veracruz was among the first batch of six struck in 2003.
