Obverse description The silver centre displays the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief, depicting an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and talons, rendered in a bold sculptural style. The aluminium bronze outer ring bears the circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcing along the upper periphery in raised Latin capitals. The lower portion of the ring is adorned with an oak-and-laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the base, flanking the lower field of the coin.
