Obverse description The obverse displays the Mexican national arms in high relief within the silver centre, depicting the iconic eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The eagle is rendered in fine detail with outstretched wings, facing left in the traditional heraldic pose. A wreath of oak and laurel branches, tied with a ribbon at the base, frames the lower portion of the central device within the aluminium bronze ring. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery of the ring in raised Latin characters.
