Pablo Baraona Urzúa served as President of the Banco Central under the Pinochet regime during one of Chile's most turbulent economic periods — his tenure coincided with the Chicago Boys' monetarist experiment and the aggressive liberalization program that followed the 1973 coup. The signature variants on this series reflect administrative transitions within that program rather than any change in issuing policy.
The shift from large round serial numerals without a prefix letter to electronic sorting serials with a prefix letter tracks the Casa de Moneda's modernization of its numbering systems in the mid-to-late 1970s. Collectors frequently undervalue the earlier no-prefix variant, which is the scarcer of the two.
