| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse is divided into three horizontal registers of Arabic legend contained within a rectangular frame, itself set within a dotted circular border. The uppermost register bears the sultan's title as ruler of the two lands and lord of the two seas, the middle register continues the honorific with the title of sovereign of sovereigns, and the lower register identifies the ruler as the sultan, son of the sultan. Regnal numerals appear in the lower field outside the cartouche. The bold, deeply struck Thuluth-style calligraphy fills the available field with commanding authority. |

The Regency of Tripoli operated as an Ottoman vassal state under the Karamanli dynasty from 1711, functioning with considerable autonomy in practice while nominally striking coinage in the name of the reigning sultan. This piece bears Selim III's tughra, whose reign coincided with his ill-fated Nizam-ı Cedid reforms — a systematic attempt to modernize the Ottoman military that ultimately cost him his throne in 1807 when the Janissaries revolted and deposed him.
At 31+ grams, this is a substantial silver issue, reflecting Tripoli's Mediterranean trade revenues rather than Ottoman central mint standards.
