| Descrizione del rovescio | The Royal Coat of Arms of Tonga occupies the central field, displaying a crowned shield featuring three stars, a crown, and crossed swords over a dove, supported by two crossed Tongan flags and surmounted by a royal crown within a wreath. A scroll at the base bears the Tongan motto 'KO E `OTU FONUA O TONGA KO HOKU TOFI`A'. The denomination '100 PA'ANGA' appears in the upper central field, below the arc of the legend 'CENTENARY OF THE CONSTITUTION OF TONGA' around the upper periphery. 'TONGA' is inscribed at the lower centre, with the commemorative date range '· 1875-1975 ·' flanked by raised dots along the bottom of the coin. |

The 1875 Constitution of Tonga, drafted under King George Tupou I with assistance from Wesleyan missionary Shirley Baker, was one of the first written constitutions in the Pacific — abolishing serfdom, establishing land rights, and codifying a constitutional monarchy that insulated the kingdom from direct colonial annexation. Britain, France, and Germany were all actively absorbing Pacific territories at the time, and the constitutional framework gave Tonga a legal architecture that proved durable enough to preserve nominal sovereignty through the colonial period.
Tupou IV commissioned this centennial series through the Franklin Mint, which handled the majority of Tonga's commemorative gold output in the 1970s.
