The P#75 series was Honduras's first significant redesign of the 100 Lempira denomination in over a decade, issued as the country was emerging from the political turbulence of the 1980s and attempting to stabilize an economy badly strained by both military expenditure and structural adjustment programs imposed under IMF agreements. Thomas De La Rue handled the work in London, as they had for much of Central America's currency production throughout the twentieth century.
The watermark remains the primary security feature — relatively modest by the standards De La Rue was capable of at the time, reflecting budget constraints on the Banco Central's printing contract.
