Aanvullende informatie

Angola's 1991 copper coinage arrived during a particularly unstable stretch of the civil war, when the MPLA government was attempting to maintain a functioning monetary system while fighting UNITA forces across much of the country. The kwanza itself had been introduced in 1977 to replace the escudo, but chronic inflation through the 1980s had already eroded its purchasing power severely by the time this denomination was struck.

A major currency reform followed just two years later in 1993, when the novo kwanza was replaced by the kwanza reajustado at a rate of 1,000 to one — rendering this coin effectively obsolete almost immediately after issue.
