Georgia's kuponi series was among the most chaotic currency introductions of the post-Soviet period. The kuponi entered circulation in April 1993 as a coupon currency running parallel to the Russian ruble before fully replacing it — the government was printing denominations faster than the economy could absorb them, and triple-digit inflation made even 100-unit notes functionally worthless within months of issue.
The "digit '2' in denominator" variety designation points to a plate or typographic flaw in the fraction-style serial numbering, a known differentiator among collectors of this series. The April 1945 print date in the catalog data almost certainly reflects a misread or transcription error — the kuponi did not exist until 1993.
