| Obverse description | Central field bears the national emblem of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, depicting a stylised landscape with paddy fields and a rising sun at the base, flanked by symmetrical sheaves of rice bound with ribbon, surmounted by a hammer and sickle with a five-pointed star above. The circular legend 'THE LAO PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC' arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, while the denomination '100 KIP' appears in the lower field beneath the emblem. |

| Additional information |
Laos established the People's Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975, abolishing the 600-year-old monarchy under King Savang Vatthana, who died under murky circumstances in a re-education camp several years later. This 1985 issue — struck for the tenth anniversary — was produced almost entirely for the export collector market, as gold coinage had no practical role in a command economy where even basic consumer goods remained rationed.
