Albania's monetary system was rebuilt almost from scratch in 1925 when Zog consolidated power and established the National Bank with Italian financial backing — the Banca d'Italia held a controlling interest, and the franc-based currency system adopted that year was itself a concession to Rome's broader ambitions in the Adriatic. This 100 Franga Ari was the flagship gold denomination of that arrangement, struck in Rome at the Istituto Poligrafico.
The three catalog variants (KM#11a.1 through .3) differ in subtle legend and star placement details on the reverse, distinctions that matter considerably to specialists assembling a type set of the brief Kingdom period.
