Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a detailed depiction of the Ad-Dayr (the Monastery), one of the most celebrated rock-cut monumental facades of the ancient Nabataean city of Petra in modern-day Jordan. The classical Hellenistic-influenced facade is shown with its characteristic urn-topped tholos and flanking half-pediments, carved directly from the rose-red sandstone cliff face. The inscription PETRA arcs along the upper field, with the date 2016 positioned below, completing the legend.

Aanvullende informatie

Mali joined the CFA franc zone at independence in 1960, briefly withdrew to issue its own currency in 1962, then rejoined in 1984 — an unusual monetary reversal driven by IMF pressure and the failure of the Mali franc to stabilize. The "Petra" designation places this piece in a series of miniature gold issues struck for the collector market, bearing no meaningful connection to Mali's monetary history or circulation economy.
