The Republic of the Congo has no meaningful historical connection to Che Guevara beyond his brief, failed 1965 Congo intervention — a months-long guerrilla campaign in what was then the Democratic Republic of the Congo (a entirely separate country) that Guevara himself later described as a disaster. This piece is a modern numismatic novelty struck for the collector market, using the Congo's issuing authority as a licensing convenience rather than any statement of national significance.
