The BCEAC was a transitional institution, issuing coinage on behalf of a monetary union that would be restructured into the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale in 1972 — the same year this piece was struck. Coins bearing the BCEAC name were phased out almost immediately after, making late-dated examples like this one short-lived survivors of an institution in its final months.
