Obverse description Three giant eland (Taurotragus derbianus) depicted in left-facing profile, their elongated spiral horns extending prominently toward the upper field. The animals are rendered in fine relief against a stylized background of crossed savanna grasses. The bilingual country name CAMEROUN - CAMEROON arcs along the upper rim, while the engraver's signature G.B.L.BAZOR appears to the right, and the Monnaie de Paris mint mark is visible at the lower field.

The BCEAC was a transitional institution, issuing coinage on behalf of a monetary union that would be restructured into the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale in 1972 — the same year this piece was struck. Coins bearing the BCEAC name were phased out almost immediately after, making late-dated examples like this one short-lived survivors of an institution in its final months.
