Obverse description The obverse features the Arabic legend 'الجمهورية العراقية' (Republic of Iraq) in flowing Naskh script occupying the upper field. At center, a raised circular cartouche bears the denomination '١٠٠ فلس' (100 Fils) in bold Arabic-Indic numerals. Below the central cartouche, the dual date '١٣٧٩ - ١٩٥٩' appears in both Hijri and Gregorian calendars. Two crossed olive or palm branches flank the lower portion of the central design, their stems meeting at the base. The coin is struck with a fine reeded border running along the full circumference.
